Hello, and welcome to the open course "Road to Artificial General Intelligence" or "Road to AGI". I'm very glad you could join us to consider the important steps we must take on our roadway to developing and implimenting artificial general intelligence.

Now this course is not a discussion of philosophy, and it's not about building a Superintelligence utopia. Here we focus on the steps involved in engineering artificial general intelligence. Now I don't have all the answers; no one has a monopoly on intelligence. But here I aim to share relevant contributions from science, technology, engineering, and mathematics towards this most important technological achievement.

We'll begin taking lessons from mathematics, work our way up the natural and social science hierarchies, and conclude with computer science modeling the formal scientific foundations we began from. Along the way, we'll see how some of these lessons have already been applied, what's working, what's not working, and where we can make progress on our road to AGI.

In addition to the videos, please enjoy the accompanying readings, activities, discussions, and quizzes. And as you're learning, if you find there was something new or you didn't understand from the video, pause, take some time to think about it, and read the associated references. But if you do feel like you already understand the content being discussed and its relation to AGI, feel free to skip ahead to the more salient informative lectures. Focus on the academic contributions where you can make your greatest progress. And if you have a contribution, please share it in the discussions; email it directly to me and I'll share it with everyone. The Artificial General Intelligence community wants to hear your thoughts.

This course does assume you are familiar with basic principles of mathematics, computer programming, and artificial intelligence. But even if those things are new, don't be afraid to jump in. We're all in uncharted territory here.

So I want to thank you again for taking your time here and I look forward to joining you on the road to AGI - perhaps retrospectively, the greatest technological contribution of all time.
